We wouldn’t say it was easy, but it was definitely fun! Our Nieces are Scarlet (7yrs) and Mila (3yrs). We arrived at Government Canyon on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. We had planned to start with a nature walk but upon checking in, we were informed that the trails were closed for the day because of rainy weather. This took me back to the Carlsbad Cavern experience we had on The Best/Worst Road Trip we took last month. But since that trip turned out awesome, I figured this one would too! So we decided to stick to the plan and move on to setting up camp. We found our patch of land and got to work.
On the to do list was, set up the tent, have lunch, explore, start a fire, cook dinner and then the fun part, s’mores!!!! Everything went as planned. The girls played the guitar, took turns telling ghost stories and when it was time for bed, they were out as soon as their heads hit the pillows. Now it was time for some night photography. Judy and I set up the camera and played with the flashlight. It was a full moon so the night turned out to be a beautiful one!
The next morning, after breakfast, the trails had opened so we went on our hike. I loved seeing the wind in the girl’s hair as they ran and ran down the long trails. They pointed out every footprint & insect and Mila was obsessed with the cactus. It was a nature walk we will never forget. We are so happy that we were able to spend nature time with our nieces and we look forward to doing it again!
