The Road Trip That Started It All – The Grand Canyon Adventure

This post is a throwback to 2010! This is the year we took the road trip that sparked our love for traveling, the journey to The Grand Canyon. We’ve been road trippin ever since!  This 7 day road trip was a gift from Judy’s aunt, to all of us.  It was Aunt Isabel’s milestone B-day year, we had just finished our school semester and cousin Dusty was along for the ride.  There were a number of stops (Carlsbad Caverns, Gila Cliff Dwellings, The Petrified Forest, The Meteor Crater, and White Sands) which were all awesome and amazing aswell, but the highlight of this trip would be hiking into the Grand Canyon.

We started at 10 am, not the recommended time to start hiking but we didn’t care, this was our adventure!! We had been to the Grand Canyon before, but it was so different to be down in it.  Our hike down was beautiful and once we reached an amazing overlook, we stopped for lunch.   While we ate we noticed the cutest squirrel, so we thought! We realized very quickly that this squirrel was a maniac.  Every chance he got to take our food he did.  He almost took our bag of cookies!  We fought him off, snapped some photos and started our hike back up the canyon.

By this point it was becoming clear why it  is not recommended to hike midday. HOT!   We made it up eventually.  At times we thought we may not make it but we finished strong, we survived!!!  We have so many great memories of  The Grand Canyon adventure, from Dusty playfully disobeying warnings to encouraging Aunt Isabel to make it back up with my buns of steel. We can’t wait to go back for more Grand Canyon fun!!!!!
