Capulin Volcano National Monument

Day 2

The previous night brought thunderstorms and winds strong enough to snap our tent poles. We got soaked while we broke down camp and stuffed everything into the SUV. Drury Inn to the rescue!! We love how there is never a dull moment when you are on the road.  So the adventure continued.

On our way down the volcano,  a lone tumbleweed on the road, what a great way to say goodbye to this amazing monument. We had a long drive ahead to get to Denver, but we would be there soon enough.

The Rockies!!! We couldn’t believe our eyes. We would be visiting the Rocky Mountain National Park in a couple of days but seeing the mountains as we drove into the city made us want to be there sooner. Unfortunately we were exhausted from the drive so we settled into our room, ordered a yummy burger and called it a day.

It’s the inspiration for the name of our blog. We always see it when traveling and we always love to see it rolling across the road. We had to stop for some photos with our fellow traveling tumbleweed friends. After a few photos we sent the tumbleweed on their way and we continued on ours. Although we were only driving through New Mexico, we couldn’t resist stopping in to see the Capulin Volcano National Monument, in Capulin NM. Once again, New Mexico did not disappoint. We gasped as we made our way to the top of the volcano. The Volcanic Field stretched for miles before our eyes. It was breathtaking!! We got to explore the bowels of the volcano and the wildlife was active at every turn.
