It was an awesome birthday weekend in Austin! Saturday was filled with spending time with family, eating wonderful meals together and catching up. It was a cold rainy day, so we started a nice fire and played games late into the night. Vanessa and my cousin drank many margaritas this night.
Sunday, the birthday DAY, started as a cold and overcast morning and we had a breakfast of doughnuts and croissants…. the best. Even though the forecast still called for cold rain, we were determined to get some nature time. We decided on Bastrop State Park and we hadn’t been since the big fire of 2011. The park ranger told us that over 90% of the park had been burned and pointed us to the cabin area which had been spared. My aunt took us to her favorite hiking trail, it was the one she took my cousins and I to as kids. The underbrush was thick and green with new life and baby pines coming up everywhere. The trail we knew was so different but still so beautiful.
The rain moved us on to the neighboring Buescher State Park, where we had a good talk with the rangers about setting up junior ranger hikes and activities for the little ones in our lives. Fishing and archery were just some of the ideas we came away with! We ended our outing with a nice mini-hike in the drizzle and scenic views overlooking pastures of fog.
My birthday night ended with an awesome time Stitchin’ and Bitchin’ at Barton Springs Saloon and we were home in time to watch The Walking Dead with CHOCO aka “Brown Dog”. It was the perfect time in A-town.
